Water or Air? How to Adjust the Nitetronic F2 Floating Pillow

The terms *water pillow* and *air pillow* can sound like two different products. The Nitetronic F2 Floating Cooling Pillow uses both: a fillable water layer for support and a separate air layer for height. Understanding which layer to adjust first can make setup calmer and help you judge comfort without changing everything at once.

What each layer does

The F2's water chamber changes the way the pillow supports and redistributes pressure beneath your head. Its air chamber, adjusted with the supplied hand pump, changes pillow height. In simple terms, **water mainly tunes the feel of support; air mainly tunes loft**. The two effects interact, so neither should be judged in isolation.

The water layer also absorbs and redistributes heat. That is different from an electric chiller that continuously cools circulating water. If you are comparing products labelled “water-cooled” or “electric cooling,” our mechanism comparison explains why those labels can describe very different systems.

Start with the instructions, not the maximum setting

Follow the current F2 manual and product-page directions for filling and sealing the water chamber. The current F2 product FAQ recommends **6 to 7 liters** of water for optimal performance and recommends purified water to help limit algae growth. Do not add extra water, cleaners, fragrances, or ice simply to make the pillow feel more dramatic. If your manual or the supplied parts differ from the online page, confirm the correct version with Nitetronic support before filling.

After filling, check the closure and place the pillow on a protected surface briefly to confirm that no water escapes. Then use the supplied pump to set a moderate air level. You should be able to rest your head and neck comfortably without feeling pushed sharply upward or dropped toward the mattress.

Adjust one variable at a time

If your neck feels too high, first check your normal sleep position and the amount of air in the height layer. A lower air setting may be more relevant than removing water. If the height seems reasonable but the pillow feels firmer or softer than you prefer, review the approved water range in the F2 instructions. Do not guess by adding water beyond the manufacturer's range.

Give each safe adjustment a few nights before judging it. Keep your mattress, bed position, and bedding as consistent as practical. Record three simple observations: your sleep position, whether the neck felt comfortably supported, and whether the pillow felt too warm or too cool after several hours. A brief first touch does not tell you how a pillow will feel through a whole night.

Cooling is not the same as refrigeration

Water can absorb and spread heat, and the F2's cover may feel cool to the touch. But the pillow does not claim a powered thermostat or continuous refrigeration. Room temperature, pillowcase, bedding, and your own heat output all affect the experience. If a surface feels cool at bedtime but warmer later, that does not mean the water chamber has failed; passive materials gradually exchange heat with their surroundings.

The F2 is a comfort product, not an anti-snore treatment or a medical device. If you are considering a pillow because of persistent snoring, gasping, witnessed breathing pauses, or marked daytime sleepiness, seek a healthcare evaluation rather than relying on pillow temperature or height alone.

FAQ

Should I add more water to make the F2 cooler?

Not beyond the product's recommended range. Water volume affects support as well as thermal feel, and more water does not turn the F2 into an electric chiller. Follow the latest manual and the F2 product FAQ.

Is the hand pump for moving water?

No. The supplied pump adjusts the air chamber and therefore the pillow's height. The water chamber is filled separately according to the F2 instructions.

Can I test both layers in one night?

You can set both layers up before use, but change only one setting at a time when comparing comfort. Otherwise it becomes difficult to know what helped or made the pillow less comfortable.

Is a water-air pillow an electric cooling pillow?

No. The F2 uses water for passive heat absorption and support, plus a manually adjusted air layer. It does not continuously refrigerate water to a selected temperature.
